​

was the end of a jazz song   sounded like crickets     roaring like brass   they
were voyeurs in the wind   old ladies hike their skirts up   throw spice into the
air   thick tongues wanting     to feel     alive   bloated from whiskey and
peanut dust    the moist blanket drapes from the windowsill
I sleep well tonight

Cristina Van Orden received her BA in English at Seattle Pacific University and is currently an MFA candidate for Creative Writing at Antioch University Los Angeles. Cristina lives on the edge of the city where she divides her time between caring for her beautiful family and freelance. Her work is forthcoming in Silver Needle Press.
