MOB JUSTICE

Poetry by Bethany Brengan
The crows are screaming in the forest.
Hard to tell if this is an accusation
or a sentencing, but they shrill
their own name, Murder! Murder!
Murder! Only grief is this insistent.
Finally, from the other side
of the creek, the soft boo-
boo
of an owl in the wrong
time of day: maybe “sorry," maybe
just a protest against the light.
