Jason Harris on the Editorial Mentorship
When I think about science fiction, hardly do I ever think about it showing up in poetry. Not to say that it can't but it's a genre I'm more expecting to see in prose. When I read Nosse's poem, Field Notes from Earth: Taste of the Very Rich, I knew immediately that Nosse was onto something that made me see the speaker of poems in a new way. I've read poems written in the voice of animals, the past or future-self of the author. But never from the point of view of aliens. While the poem is written from the perspective of someone I will never know or be, I think their observation of the human-centered world, their glimpse of a lifestyle I too will never know, is what makes this poem exciting for me.
