It has been a privilege and delight to collaborate with Nardine Taleb on “Albaloo.” I have been an editor for many years, but it’s only recently that I’ve started to submit my own work. As soon as I saw Nardine was an Egyptian-American writer and performs poetry and prose, I jumped at the chance to work with her. I got the sense that our work would have similar parallels so she would understand where I’m coming from and help me revise my essay so the subject matter and style could really shine through. I felt comfortable asking her questions and really diving into revisions. We corresponded back and forth over three drafts for several weeks and Nardine has certainly helped me identify the essay’s strengths and where I can improve. I’ve learned so much from this experience which I can apply to my writing as well as my editing—thank you very much, Nardine!
