Eve's Vagina

Poetry by Joanna Cleary
i ate the apple at midday like it was swollen sunlight.
i cleaned my mouth with saliva from my lover.
i cleaned my body with leaves and prayer.
i cleaned my body until it didn’t hurt.
i cleaned my body with children.
i ate apple after fleshy apple.
i ate until it hurt again.
                           i cleaned myself.
                              i ate myself.
                                i cleaned.
                                    i ate.
