Youth Outlet: Author Reflection

The John Carroll’s Young Writer's Workshop was such a wonderful experience for me. I very much enjoyed the positive leadership and input the writers and the instructors provided. I looked forward to going every day, to write new stories, getting to know my peers and learning new perspectives and ideas. It was very enjoyable to write poetry in the morning and fiction in the afternoon, then come together in our groups to receive feedback on ways to improve our writing. I have made so many new friends and contacts from the workshop, many of which I still talk to and share stories.

​Dr. Philip Metres is an amazing instructor and role model. He shared his extensive knowledge and insight into writing, motivating us all to dig deep within ourselves to put out our best work. I look forward to continuing developing my writing skills and abilities.

Carlson Jones

​Carlson, 15, attends Beaumont School and is a member of the pre-med club. She is also a member of the school’s 2019 conference champion varsity tennis team and is a doubles champion. She resides in Beachwood, Ohio, and lives with her parents and her younger sister Parker. Her older brother Chris lives in Austin, Texas. She traveled to London in early 2019, achieving a life goal to see where Winston Churchill lived and visited the country where her passion for Downton Abbey and other British shows were formed. Carlson enjoys archery, reading, writing, and spending time with family and friends.
