On the Revision Process for "A Good Death"

On a whim, I submitted my poem “A Good Death” to Gordon Square Review thinking I would receive a polite rejection letter in return. Instead, I was offered an editorial mentorship from Jeanette Beebe. 

I am so grateful for Jeanette’s patient, supportive coaching, and especially her reminders that her advice is to be taken or left. Ultimately, the poem is mine. The most helpful advice Jeanette gave was that I simply sit with my work and see if I could go deeper. Following this suggestion not only resulted in a work of art with more depth and texture, but the process became a therapeutic experience for me.

Dreama J. Mason is a longtime resident of Northeast Ohio. She has worked in skilled nursing facilities offering creativity and motivation to senior citizens for most of her adult life. Writing has always been a cathartic and necessary outlet for her. “A Good Death” is her first published work. ​
